Judy Chicago. Feminist Art for the 21st Century

Renowned for the convention-shattering nature of her work, Chicago has served as pioneer for an enlarged definition of art, an expanded role for the artist, and a woman’s right to freedom of expression.
Judy Chicago, artist, author and feminist, will present three lectures, the first two about the large and diverse body of art she has produced over four decades of professional practice, including her four major collaborative projects ("The Dinner Party", which commemorates the achievements of women in Western Civilization and is now permanently housed at the Brooklyn Museum; the "Birth Project", celebrating women's role in birth and creation; the "Holocaust Project: From Darkness into Light", exploring the meaning of the Holocaust in a contemporary context; and "Resolutions: A Stitch in Time", a post-modern subversion of the traditions of both needlework and proverbs). The two lectures will conclude with a discussion of her recent work in glass. Her third lecture is titled: "Feminist Art in the 21st Century: Content/Context/Continuity" and will explore the global development to Feminist art, the most important art movement of the late 20th century, which Ms.Chicago's work helped to stimulate.
