Guay Debord’s worst preditions about the society of the spectacle have become true. How to make art in an environment/spectacle like todays? How to make art from the information that most of us would rather ignore? How to insert our practice within an audiovisual landscape that only encourages consuming?
This seminar will try to suggest strategies to take on today from culture, the last free space to imagine and create a different world.
Alfredo Jaar is an artist, architect and filmmaker who has been living in New York since 1982. He mainly uses photography as register and format of his subject matter. He has developed projects that link other areas of human knowledge. Due to this fact the work of this artist changes its format and has the versatility to appear in different mediums such as publications and exhibitions. His work has been
exhibited all over the world. He has participated in Venice, Sao Paulo, Johannesburg, Sydney, Istambul, Brighton, Seville, Canary and Kwanju Biennials. He has work in more than a hundred projects over the last 30 years and there are 36 mono graphic publications on his work.
