Manuel Delgado is lecturer in Religious Ethnology in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona. He is the co-ordinator of the PhD programme in Anthropology of Space and Territory and a member of the GRECS (Research Group on Social Exclusion and Control) at the University of Barcelona, as well as of the Working Group on the Ethnography of Public Spaces at the Insititut Català d’Antropologia. He is the author of, among other things, El animal público (Anagrama Prize for essays 1999) and Ciudades movedizas (2006).
This seminar will explore the way cinema has developed mechanisms of representation that are similar to those conceptualised by anthropology as belonging to certain techniques of ecstasy.
