12/12/2009 – 13/12/2009
Manifesta Coffee Break is a recurring public weekend gathering, serving as a tool to discuss the concept of Manifesta in a larger critical context. On the 12 and 13 December 2009, the fifth edition of Manifesta Coffee Break will take place in Murcia, paving the way for Manifesta 8, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, in 2010. It will bring together both local and international artists, curators, theoreticians, writers and other art professionals to reflect on Manifesta’s logic in direct relation to Murcia-Cartagena and its links with Northern Africa. The Manifesta Coffee Break is structured along three thematic ‘sessions’, each being developed by the curatorial collectives of Manifesta 8, in collaboration with invited speakers. The curators of Chamber of Public Secrets aim to open up a discussion about the involvement of the local audience (in a broader sense: visitors, artists and media presence). Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum will focus on the notion of human geography and its reverberations in art, and the members of Tranzit.org will make a collaborative performance, entitled “(Post) Communist Past / (Post) Colonial Present”.
