Since the early twentieth century many artists have abandoned idealism, outrightly rejecting conventional forms of representation and deserting institutional spaces to engage in the order of concrete things. This, in turn, gave rise to unprecedented art practices and forms: the art of intervention and activist art, art taking over the urban space or the landscape, participative or active aesthetics in the fields of economics, of mass media or the spectacle. In this regard, the artist becomes a committed and often disturbing social agent, while the artwork takes a completely new, problematic shift related more than ever with the world in which it comes into being.
